This despite all the news of Google purchasing the streaming site.

Twitch

Remember all that talk about Google buying video game streaming site Twitch? Despite the initial rumblings, the rumours had died down after a while and now, according to a source that spoke to The Wall Street Journal, it seems that Amazon will instead be picking up Twitch for $1 billion.

Though there’s no initial confirmation from Amazon, it seems the deal will be announced on Monday. This is fairly interesting when you consider all the hype generated by Google picking up the service. It would have fit into their profile as well, considering that Google has always struggled with streaming despite the presence of YouTube.

Amazon is an online retail site but it also specializes in delivering tons of digital content including books (as evidenced by its successful Kindle devices), movies, TV shows and much more. It recently launched the Amazon Fire smartphone to stake its claim in the mobile device market. What are your thoughts on Amazon acquiring Twitch? Let us know below.
