Krillbite Studio’s unorthodox horror title Among the Sleep, which released in May 2014 to average critical acclaim, seems to have found some measure of financial success. The developer announced at GDC 2015 (via Eurogamer) that the indie game sold more than 100,000 copies. Considering its original funding goal was $200,000 on Kickstarter, that’s not bad.
Among the Sleep has you playing as a toddler who must survive against a shadowy being that haunts him throughout the game. You have a talking teddy bear as your ally but that only adds to the weirdness. Issues of parental abuse and separated families are explored throughout, marking a departure from the usual ghosts and demons of other horror titles.
Currently available on Linux, Mac and PC, Among the Sleep was supposed to release on PS4 as well and support Sony’s VR headset Project Morpheus. Hopefully, Morpheus or not, it releases sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more information.
