Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons won’t have its seasons confined to the Northern Hemisphere like previous iterations. Instead, it will allow players to set their region beforehand and have the seasons match them accordingly. So if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, the game will now correctly depict Winter and Summer in regions like Australia.

This was confirmed by producer Hisashi Nogami on the recent Nintendo Treehouse Live stream for the game (at the 8:30 mark below). Animal Crossing: New Horizons will making tons of other changes to the series’ formula, taking players to a deserted island to set up their town. Crafting, recipes, and other quality of life changes have also been added.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out on March 20th, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch. It was originally set to launch this year. However, Nintendo decided to delay the release to avoid crunch and ensure a more complete title at launch. Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming months.
