Nintendo’s Animal Crossing was always a popular series ever since it launched originally on the Nintendo 64 in Japan. However, that popularity has slowly been growing with each new entry, and the latest, New Horizons, has blown the lid off the place it seems. As of the end of last year, the game had sold over 26 million units and has constantly been charting at the top of sales charts in various regions. Now it’s at the top of another.

As detailed by Oscar Lemaire of French sales site Ludostrie, 2020 saw Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the top of the charts for France. What makes it even more significant is, as you can see, the last 12 years have seen either a FIFA, a Call of Duty or a Grand Theft Auto in that spot, with FIFA specifically being number 1 since 2014. So it says a lot when a game can break that streak, especially when its on just a single platform.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
