Anthem Developer Talks About In-Game Damage and Challenge/Feat Players Titles

"Cool idea, I'll kick it over to the systems team."

With BioWare having sidelined all their other projects in order to put their entire focus on finishing up Anthem (you can read the report here), questions about the game and what it will entail have started becoming even more common. Credit to BioWare where it’s due though, because most of the times they’ve actually been pretty responsive. That includes replying to even the smaller questions or suggestions.

In one thread on the Anthem sub-reddit, a user brought up the question of whether the Javelins, the mech suits that player wear in the game, will be visibly damaged as the players lose health, to which BioWare’s Brennon Holmes was quick to reply. “This is something we’ve been talking about,” Holmes said. “It’s a little unclear on whether or not we can incorporate it into the final shader solution… but I think we’re definitely interested in something like this!”

In a separate thread, a user suggested that Anthem have a mechanic of rewarding players with titles upon completing certain tasks or beating certain bosses or enemies. The idea is that these titles would then become part of their in-game social identity, and would be used even by some NPCs, for instance. Similar to what you see in Runescape 3. Holmes responded to this as well, saying that it definitely sounds like a great idea. “Cool idea, I’ll kick it over to the systems team,” he said. “I think there’s a way of integrating this into something else we’re already doing.”

Anthem is now due out in 2019, after a delay, for the PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage on the game.
