Anthem is Now Bioware’s Sole Focus- Report

The game is apparently now due in early 2019.

It looks like the studio Bioware may be on thin ice a bit. According to a report by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, Bioware is now essentially a “single game studio”, with all their resources being poured into their upcoming shared world shooter Anthem, which was debuted at E3 last year.

While studio morale is presently high, the report states that Bioware is aware that the studio’s future could possibly be riding on Anthem and how it turns out, explicitly stating that Bioware could  “look very different in the future” if Anthem turns out to be a flop. The problem is especially that Bioware has already had a very high profile bomb in Mass Effect Andromeda last year.

That said, if it makes Bioware fans feel any better, it seems like EA and Bioware are both aware of the backlash that Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Destiny 2 have suffered from in the last few months, and they are presumably going to alter their monetization plans accordingly.

Now for the bad news- Anthem is no longer slated for this year. The “Fall 2018” release date was apparently never going to be hit, and the new plan is to release it by March next year. We’ll see how it all turns out, but I wish Bioware all the luck.
