Bioware’s star has fallen a bit in recent years. In 2010, they were at the top of the world, with Mass Effect 2 representing the pinnacle of their output, and their storytelling ambitions. In recent years, however, they have made several missteps, and fans have lost faith in them. Bioware, of course, is probably hoping for its upcoming shared world shooter Anthem to in them back.
But will they be won back by something that is such a departure from what made Bioware so beloved to begin with? Well, maybe this might bring more Bioware fans on board- Mass Effect 1 and 2 Lead Writer Drew Karpyshyn is working on Anthem, as he confirmed on Twitter.
Given that Mass Effect 1 and 2 are the games in the franchise that aren’t criticized for their story – the third game was roundly mocked for its ending – this may give us some indication that there may be some classic Bioware goodness here, in spite of all of the multiplayer trappings.
Hopefully that is true. We will find out next year, when Anthem launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Yes. Yes I am. 🙂
