Anthem has enough issues on its hands right now—the game has received a critical mauling, and it has underperformed relative to expectations based on early sales metrics for it. The last thing the game needs right now is a reputation for destroying your console. But based on some reports, that may be exactly what it is doing.
Based on posts made on the game’s subreddit over the weekend, Anthem is causing PlayStation 4 systems to randomly shut down without warning. This is bad enough, of course, since this means the game has effectively failed even the most basic of all certifications for a console game—but another player has posted on Reddit, warning PlayStation players that if they experience any system shutdowns while playing Anthem, they should stop playing right away given that these are apparently a precursor to a full on system bricking. Kotaku is reporting that it has received multiple such tips from players, indicating that this may not be an isolated incident.
If this is true, then—okay, I think the first thing BioWare needs to do is issue a hotfix, because this is such a fundamental failure for a console game I am surprised it actually managed to release in this state. Stay tuned for further updates on this.
