Respawn Entertainment has seen quite a few changes since launching Apex Legends last year. The most notable is in founder and CEO Vince Zampella taking over leadership for DICE LA. However, this latest development sees founding member and current Apex Legends executive producer Drew McCoy leaving the company entirely.
McCoy announced the news on Twitter and thanked players “from the bottom of my heart.” Though unsure of where he’d be heading, he said, “Rest assured I can’t stay away from games for long!” It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see McCoy shift to another high-profile studio especially given how well Apex Legends has done.
Having worked with Zampella and Jason West at Infinity Ward, McCoy was one of several employees who joined the duo in setting up Respawn. He first served as a lead producer on Titanfall and then went on to become senior producer for Titanfall 2 before heading up Apex Legends last year. The free to play battle royale title is currently in Season 4 and saw the return of King’s Canyon from Season 1 as a map.
Today marks the start of a new adventure for me. I will absolutely cherish the last 10 years I spent helping start Respawn and ship some awesome games alongside amazing people. I'll miss the people the most – the daily arguments, successes, failures, and everything inbetween. 1/2

For everyone who played our games, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Not sure where I'm going yet, but rest assured I can't stay away from games for long!
Be excellent to each other 2/2
