While Microsoft may have been embroiled in controversy following its Games With Gold plan – although it did finally provide Assassin’s Creed 2 for free to Xbox 360 users – Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed is now available for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
It’s currently available on the European Sony Entertainment Network Store, and can also be purchased by non-subscribers for £23.99.
Assassin’s Creed 3 released last year for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and despite the horrific number of bugs that affected it upon release (not to mention the lackluster DLC packages), it’s been properly patched up to deliver a decent experience. Would it be better than Assassin’s Creed 2? Not likely, but at least Sony managed to deliver on its promise for bringing high-profile AAA titles for free to PlayStation Plus.
PlayStation Plus will be expanding in the future with a free yet limited version of DriveClub to be available for the PlayStation 4 along with multiplayer and cross-game chat.
