While Ubisoft has been working hard when it comes to post-launch support for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the company has now also confirmed that at least one more activity is planned to be added to the game. In an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, developers of Assassin’s Creed Shadows responded to a question about more open-world activities like random encounters or mini-games, to which the developers responded in the affirmative.

However, the developers don’t really provide any details about what this planned expansion to the in-game activity is. Rather, they have said that more details will be coming later on down the line. Aside from this, there are seemingly no plans to expand on the list of open-world activities available in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Instead, the developers want to work at improving what the game already has.

“There is currently one activity we plan to expand in the future,” explain the developers. “More details to come on this one. Otherwise, we are not planning many brand-new additions to the open-world activities. Our focus is to work on what we already have got in play.”

It is also worth noting that an open-world activity will likely be one of the smaller additions made to the game in terms of scope. These activities typically tend to exist in open-world games to make sure that travelling long distances doesn’t get repetitive by offering players some gameplay variety.

In the same AMA, the developers had also confirmed that there are no plans to bring the much-beloved Discovery Tour mode to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Rather, the developers have decided to instead integrate the educational and historical content that would otherwise be in Discovery Tour directly into the in-game historical Codex.

“On Shadows, we have decided to integrate the Historical Codex directly in the main game so it’s available to everyone,” said a developer when asked about the game mode. “So compared to games like Odyssey or Valhalla, all players can access that historical information directly in the main game. But to get to the core of your question, we do not currently have a ‘Japan Discovery Tour’ like we had for ‘Viking Age’ in the works.”

The developers have also confirmed that they have plans to bring the series-wide Assassins vs Templars conflict back to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. They noted that, with the most recent game in the series, Ubisoft first wanted to establish the characters and setting before diving into larger story beats that tend to have deeper implications for the lore going forward. More details about the conflict returning are set to be revealed with a deep dive in the “near future”.

In the meantime, Ubisoft is also currently preparing for the September 16 release of the first story expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Dubbed Claws of Awaji, the expansion was available for free as a pre-order bonus, and can be picked up separately by players who bought the game after release. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and Ubisoft has confirmed that it has reached 5 million players as of July. Check out our review of the game for more details.
