With all the talk of raiding and pillaging in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, one might there there’s some substance to rumors of co-op play. Unfortunately, it seems that won’t be the case. Speaking to Eurogamer, Ubisoft confirmed that this is a single-player experience. Interestingly enough, there are “many online components” to be had.

“Valhalla is a single player game with many online components, encouraging players to share their progress and creativity,” said a spokesperson. The recent cinematic trailer indicated that players would be able to create their own unique Viking raider to share with their clan. This could also be shared online with friends “to use during their own raids.”

One bit of middling news is that Layla, the present day protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey will be returning as well. The present day will be playable again and more details on the First Civilization will be provided. Interestingly enough, along with confirming that creative director Ashraf Ismail is at the helm, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been in development for over 2.5 years.

Not only that but it’s been designed from the ground up for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC. It will also launch for Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia this holiday season so we’ll see how things pan out. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
