Atlas Fallen

Deck13 and Focus Entertainment finally revealed gameplay for Atlas Fallen, a new semi-open-world action RPG. Set in the sandy regions of Atlas, the story sees players rising against a tyrannical god and fighting mythical creatures with the Gauntlet. This artifact uses Essence to shape sand into powerful weapons and abilities.

As principal technical designer Sven Hammer and narrative designer Lila Grimaldi outlined in a new PlayStation Blog post, you don’t get all these options immediately. You need Catalyzer Pieces and Shards to reforge the Gauntlet. Three weapons have been outlined – the Dunecleaver, Sandwhip and Knuckledust – and you’ll need to find their Remembrances to use them.

The Dunecleaver is ideal for AoE heavy attacks and can either be an axe to destabilize an enemy or a hammer for crowd control. The Sandwhip is quick and offers mobility options like the Sandwhip Hook for grappling towards an enemy. The Knuckledust is a fist weapon, which is good for single-target damage.

While two weapons can be equipped at a time, they can also gain Momentum during combat, increasing their size and power. For instance, the Knuckledust grants another pair of arms with high Momentum.

The Gauntlet also helps with traversal, with skills like Air Dash for covering large distances, Raise for lifting nearby structures and objects to create new paths or uncover new items, and Crush, which lets “rip magical seals and chains apart” to “access forbidden grounds.”

Atlas Fallen launches on May 16th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
