Update: A representative for Focus Entertainment has since clarified to Gematsu that Winter could mean “anywhere between December 2022 and March 2023.” So a release this year isn’t completely off the table, but neither is a delay.

Original Story:

Mundfish’s trippy first-person shooter/RPG Atomic Heart has been playing coy with its release date, teasing a launch sometime between September to December 2022. However, it’s now confirmed to launch this Winter, which could mean this December or even January/February 2023.

There is good news, though – Focus Entertainment will publish the title for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PC, and Xbox One. “Initially planned for 2022, the hectic and explosive action RPG is set to release this Winter. Polishing and delivering a game of the highest quality is the priority of this talented team, with a specific launch date to be announced shortly.”

Mundfish CEO Robert Bagratuni said, “Five years ago when we founded the studio, we set ourselves the goal of creating a world-class product that could be appreciated by millions of people all over the world. And now, when the stakes are as high as ever, we are finally ready to release the momentum we have been accumulating over these years. We couldn’t be happier to head to the release with such an experienced publisher, and we do not doubt that Focus Entertainment will make the upcoming game launch truly outstanding.”

Focus Entertainment chief business development officer Julien Ramette stated, “It’s an honor to collaborate with a studio as talented as Mundfish. We were amazed by Robert and his team’s creative minds as soon as we started exchanging. The AAA standards they’ve provided for their first game are truly an accomplishment. Atomic Heart is sure to honor all players in search of an original, new generation experience.”

Atomic Heart takes place in an alternate history version of the Soviet Union in the 1950s. Technology has advanced significantly with robotics taking hold. However, an incident has taken place, causing the robot control system to go haywire. As a result, twisted creatures and genocidal machines are rebelling against humans. Naturally, it’s up to you to stop them.

Along with various weapons, the protagonist has various abilities like electricity, freezing, ignition, and even lifting foes. Using a device called Chaika 3.0, one can craft and upgrade more than 30 types of melee weapons. There are also plenty of firearms to use, and you’ll need all the firepower you can get to overcome some of the bosses. Check out the recent combat trailer here.

Stay tuned for more details on Atomic Heart’s release date in the coming months. You can also read our interview with the developer here.
