Nihlus is one of the first Spectre you encounter in the Mass Effect trilogy, sure he’s kind of a jerk, but he does believe that Commander Shepard has potential to become a Spectre. Before the events of Mass Effect, Nihlus and Samara were engaged in an epic duel, to which both of them were equally matched. Samara witnessed Nihlus kill an unarmed civilian. Bound into battle by her Justicar code, Samara attempted to kill Nihlus for the apparent crime, but both escaped alive.
