They always planned Mass Effect as a trilogy — and there are no plans for a further continuation right now.

Yes we are aware that Mass Effect 4 is coming out soon, but the developers from day one always planned a trilogy that involved Shepard’s story. Mass Effect is like the Star Trek of our time, there is never a foreseeable end to it, because the story-line, characters, romances, choices and the depth of the galaxy is too awesome to end. As many of you are aware, the game is focused on Shepard’s trilogy and Mass Effect 3 centers on the final battle against the Reapers and the end of Shepard’s story.
