Now that Larian Studios has officially announced that it is done working on Baldur’s Gate 3 with the release of the massive Patch 8 for the game, the studio has also confirmed that this means that it is now moving on to new projects.

In a statement to VideoGamer, the studio has confirmed that its full attention is now being dedicated to its next game. As a result of this, the studio will also be going into a “media blackout” to focus on development.

“Swen and the team[‘s]… full attention is focused on crafting their next title,” said the studio in a statement.

Larian had revealed that Patch 8 would be the last major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 when it first announced the patch back in November. The update itself was quite a meaty one, bringing a host of new features like cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox and PC, as well as 12 new subclasses, and even a photo mode.

The studio had begun working on its new projects some time ago, and back in 2024, even revealed that it had no plans for DLC, expansions or sequels to Baldur’s Gate 3. The new projects at Larian are instead based on its own original IP. While not too many details have been revealed about these new projects, the studio has previously stated that it will “probably” launch as an Early Access title.

Larian boss Swen Vincke recently took to social media platform X. Reacting to a fan-made documentary about how the studio rose from its financial troubles into ultimately developing critically-acclaimed RPGs, Vincke referred to it as “an incredible journey”. In the same post, Vincke also stated that “the story ain’t over yet,” referring to the fact that Larian is getting ready for its next projects.

To help development on these new projects, Larian also opened a new studio in Warsaw, Poland last year, with the intent of using all the talented developers it can get its hands on to work on new titles.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out since 2023, and is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For more details about the game, check out our review. While you’re at it, also check out our review of the game’s console release.
