Battlefield 2042 has been officially unveiled, along with the surprising news that the game is going to be a multiplayer-only experience. But though there is no single player campaign this time, DICE is promising the series’ most ambitious online experience yet. Breakthrough and Conquest are returning, while a new mode called Hazard Zone has also been confirmed. In addition to that, the game is also going to have an additional, as-of-yet-undisclosed mode.
This mode is being developed by the Vince Zampella-led DICE LA, who were confirmed to be working on Battlefield earlier this year. In a press release, EA teased this multiplayer experience, described the mode as “another exciting new game-type for the franchise” and “a love letter to Battlefield fans and one that long-time players will feel right at home with.” It will be unveiled at EA Play Live on July 22.
Battlefield 2042 is out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 22. It’s been confirmed that it will cost $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
