Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is going all-in on multiplayer, but it seems the shooter is primed to deliver a pretty dense experience nonetheless. Several modes have been confirmed so far, but there’s also a third “undisclosed” multiplayer mode being developed by DICE LA. Described by EA as “a love letter to Battlefield fans” and an experience that will allow players to “enter the wide universe of Battlefield“, there’s a lot about it that’s still shrouded in mystery.

Leaker Tom Henderson, however, has been on the forefront of Battlefield leaks for several months, and has said in the past that this mode is allegedly going to be called “Battlefield Hub”, and will feature classic maps, weapons, vehicles, and more. Now, in a recently uploaded video, Henderson has gone into greater detail, claiming that Battlefield Hub will feature maps from previous games remastered in the Battlefield 2042 engine, with vehicles and weapons from older games.

Henderson also says the Battlefield Hub will support a maximum of 128 players on PC and newer consoles, but 64 players on PS4 and Xbox One, just like the other multiplayer modes. This new mode, according to Henderson, “isn’t necessarily going to be a competitive experience or a balanced experience”. He says: “This is going to be the ultimate sandbox experience where players are just going to be able to have fun.”

Meanwhile, Henderson also speaks about Hazard Zone, one of the multiplayer experiences in Battlefield 2042 that have been unveiled so far. According to him, Hazard Zone is going to be a free-to-play mode, which would certainly make sense, given the stiff competition the series has from other major players in the free-to-play stuff.

Henderson has been on the money with most of his Battlefield-related leaks, but even so, until details are revealed officially, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. EA has said it will be unveiling more details on the game and this undisclosed mode at EA Play Live on July 22, so we’ll know soon enough.

Battlefield 2042 is releasing on October 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
