Battlefield 3 Beta Public Beta Now Live, Basic Impressions

Posted By | On 29th, Sep. 2011

The only game standing in the way of Modern Warfare 3 dominating the first-person shooter sales this holiday season is Battlefield 3.  The public beta for the game is now live for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.  There is only one mode in the beta which is ‘Rush’ and one map which is ‘Operation Metro’ at least for consoles that is.

The one map you will be playing in the beta is by far the biggest multiplayer map I have ever seen in a console game.  You can go from an above ground park area to an entire subway system underground.  That alone is breath taking as well as the animations when jumping over cover, to diving to the prone position and even crawling seemed so realistic.  There are obvious a few bumps I noticed in the beta, but that is why it is a beta and overall I was very impressed.

Wearing headsets will let you hear things that you wouldn’t normally hear as well as hearing things a lot clearer, which is not always the case with games.  With out a doubt the new Frosbyte 2 Engine is definitely put to work here.  It will certainly be interesting to see which game does better in sales, whether it is Battlefield 3 releasing on October 23rd or Modern Warfare 3 releasing on November 8th.  Add the Battlefield 3 Beta to your Xbox 360 download queue here.
