EA has finally announced that it is starting the playtests for the battle royale mode in Battlefield 6. In a new community update post, the company has confirmed that the game mode will be part of the Battlefield Labs playtest, feedback from which will be used to further improve the game mode. The battle royale mode this time around will make use of Battlefield 6’s core class and squad-based gameplay, while also including other elements like vehicle combat and environmental destruction.

“This is Battlefield’s twist on the classic formula, so you can expect to find all of the core principles of Battlefield taking place within this mode; gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles can all be used to secure the win,” wrote the company on its official website.

The Battlefield 6 battle royale mode will have its own bespoke map that was built from the ground up for the game mode. The map is slated to feature a host of Points of Interest that players can explore, each of which will have its own distinct themes and layouts. The map will also be filled with common transport vehicles, while more powerful armored vehicles can be unlocked over the course of a match.

When it comes to destruction, the company has promised that it will be everywhere in the battle royale mode, giving players new ways to approach any situation tactically, like taking down a building that is housing a team of snipers by making heavy use of explosives, for example.

A typical match in the battle royale mode will have 100 players, which in turn will then be organised into 25 4-player squads. Since communication will be quite important for the game mode, the title will offer options to ping locations and items, and even VOIP voice chat. Along with this, the inclusion of the Support class in the mode, as well as Mobile Redeploy options means that there will be plenty of options for second chances.

Progression for the classes will involve players starting out with two default gadgets. Players can then earn XP during the course of a match by completing various objectives or taking on enemy players to level up, which then allows the player to access new traits that enhances their class. Intel cases can also be found in the world, which offer major XP bonuses to the entire squad rather than to just a single player.

For weapons, players will be able to explore the map, complete missions, and fight each other for varying levels of loot. The battle royale mode will feature 5 tiers of loot, as well as attachments, throwable items like grenades, gadgets, strike packages, armour, upgrade kits, and custom drops of favourited weapons. One of the ways to get loot will be missions, which will have the squad taken on unique objectives that offer more rewards.

Battlefield 6 is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is slated for release on October 10. Along with the battle royale mode, the title will also feature returning game modes like Conquest and Rush, as well as new ones like Breakthrough. There will also be smaller-scaled game modes like free-for-all and squad deathmatch.
