BioWare’s streak of never-ending bad luck continues. After Dragon Age: The Veilguard commercially underperformed and cost publisher EA a ton of money, BioWare announced that it was restructuring and slimming down. In less pretty words, the studio is losing numerous people to projects at other EA studios, while several employees have also been laid off.

A report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has since shed further light on what’s happening. According to the report, the studio has shrunk to less than 100 employees. Its headcount was more than twice that as of a year ago.

Though “dozens” of BioWare employees were reportedly temporarily allocated to other EA projects (including Skate and Iron Man) after Dragon Age: The Veilguard, these transfers are seemingly permanent. As per the report, some aren’t pleased with the forced change, though they get to keep their jobs.

Allegedly, the plan is for BioWare to staff up again as the next Mass Effect moves deeper into production. The sci-fi RPG is still in pre-production, with a team of veterans who worked on the original Mass Effect trilogy leading the charge.
