Black Myth: Wukong has been an incredible success for Game Science, selling 18 million copies within two weeks. The developer is seemingly looking to replicate the same, as Hero Games’ Daniel Wu told Bloomberg that an expansion is in the works.

Hero Games is Game Science’s biggest external shareholder and stuck with it despite initial misses. Black Myth: Wukong was developed on a $70 million budget, to which Wu’s company contributed a “large chunk.” “Wukong proves not only that we have top-notch game-making capabilities, but also we can tell a good story with Chinese elements,” he said in an interview.

Further details for the expansion are also pending, and it may be a while before a reveal. There were teases (via IGN) of Game Science expanding on the Black Myth universe with additional titles when the first trailer debuted in 2020. Whether those could materialize as sequels or be incorporated into the expansion remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Game Science has teased plans to potentially release “non-pay-to-win in-game purchases,” though nothing has been announced. It’s also working on the Xbox Series X/S version, which faced a delay for further optimization. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
