Blizzard Entertainment recently announced that it’s making a new AAA survival game for PC and consoles. Given the scarcity of details on the project, it seemed that it was pretty early on in development, although a recent PC Gamer report seems to indicate that it might have been a pretty long time since the game started development.
Project lead Craig Amai was previously working with Blizzard on the World of Warcraft team, which he left in July 2017 (according to his LinkedIn profile) to pursue this project that started life as a “humble pitch”. Furthermore, there’s also proof that the game is in a playable state, since Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra recently tweeted that he has played “many hours” of this project. Of course, the time this game has spent in development doesn’t dictate when it will be released, so fans should keep expectations in check for now.
Blizzard Entertainment previously said that the studio has more projects in development right now than ever before, and it seems that they might be having a hard time juggling all of these mostly live-service based projects at once – more so in light of recent controversies and departures. Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 will not release at least until 2023 either.
Once upon a time this dream project was humble pitch deck on my desktop. Now it’s a team full of caring and passionate people sharing a vision I couldn’t be prouder to be part of.https://t.co/dCumH9yoEm

I’ve played many hours of this project with the team and I’m incredibly excited about the teams vision and the brand-new world it presents for players to immerse themselves in together. Join us to help make it a reality! https://t.co/pLhijX2Li9
