Gearbox Software showcased the first gameplay for Borderlands 4, including a quick look at the newest environments and Vault Hunters. Impressions are mixed on the latter, but fans can look forward to more gameplay in early 2025, per the PlayStation Blog.
It also revealed several new details on what exactly is going on. Following the events of Borderlands 3, Elpis appeared in the orbit of Kairos, a world ruled by the Timekeeper. It’s understandably caused chaos (see the first trailer) but also resulted in a new enemy faction, the Rippers, rising under Queen Callius.
In the middle of this conflict between the Timekeeper’s Order and the Rippers, the player ends up crashing on the planet. While Gearbox promises to “evolve” the gameplay in new ways, there will be “more loot than ever,” large boss battles, and returning characters. Local split-screen co-op for two players is confirmed alongside four-player online play.
Borderlands 4 doesn’t have a release date, but it launches next year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
