Borderlands 4 Teased by Gearbox Software CEO

"We're working extra hard four you on what's next..." said Gearbox's Randy Pitchford after discussing the recently released film.

It’s no secret that the next Borderlands is in development. 2K confirmed as much after the acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment. Now, following the recent disastrous release of the Borderlands film, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has seemingly teased the sequel in a new tweet.

Pitchford seemingly tweeted to no one about the film, noting he’s “super flattered” that people like “what my friends and I do with our Borderlands video games even more” than “what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of filmmakers on the planet have done.” Debatability of that last point aside, he added, “We’re working extra hard four you on what’s next…”

If that “four” wasn’t a clear enough indication for Borderlands 4, then nothing is. Pitchford has been fairly opaque about the studio’s next project. When asked about his favorite installment in the franchise, he said it hasn’t been announced but is also the “best thing we’ve ever done.”

Pitchford later admitted to “working on big things” and is “confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project when we are ready to announce it.” He also noted that the team wouldn’t “make people wait for a long time before we announce it.”

A report by Kotaku earlier this year alleged the sequel to be in development alongside Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2. Despite Borderlands 4 having its leadership reshuffled, it was seemingly making good progress.

Previous rumors indicated a reveal at Summer Game Fest last June (which turned out to be the announcement of Civilization 7). Perhaps it will appear at Gamescom Opening Night Live instead. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
