Following its big reveal at The Game Awards 2024, Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 is gearing up to showcase more gameplay early this year. While several elements like cross-play and two-player split-screen co-op are confirmed, senior project producer Anthony Nicholson also assured that there will be guns. Lots of guns. Billions, even.

Nicholson told GamesRadar for its Borderlands 4 preview that the team is “always adding more guns, manufacturers, legendary weapons and opportunities for customization and player expression.” As a result, players can look forward to “billions of weapons and accessories” in the sequel, which may cause long-time fans to groan at the potential junk to sift through.

However, when asked if the rarity system will receive updates, he added that Gearbox wants “to create exciting moments when a rare weapon, item, or something altogether unexpected drops.” This doesn’t mean you won’t trash a good chunk of your drops, but at least you can look forward to them more.

Borderlands 4 is out later this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Though 2K hasn’t narrowed a release window, it’s definitely not launching anywhere close to Grand Theft Auto 6, which releases this Fall.
