Activision and Microsoft recently officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 after months of leaks and speculation, and though the first-person shooter won’t be fully unveiled until next month, some details on its launch seem to have emerged prematurely nonetheless.
Specifically, it looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is going to be a cross-gen release. As shared by a user on Reddit (via @charlieINTEL on Twitter), it looks like GameStop has listings ready for pre-orders of the shooter, which, alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, also mention a PS4 version. An internal image of the listings on GameStop’s backend can be seen below.
The image has, interestingly enough, also been corroborated by Insider Gaming, with the outlet claiming that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will indeed be launching for Xbox One and PS4 as well.
Call of Duty games have been releasing as cross-gen titles on a consistent basis as is, so this isn’t out of the ordinary for the series, though some would have anticipated that at this point, nearly four years into the current console generation, support for last-gen machines would be dropped, especially if it allows developers to finally properly leverage current-gen hardware.
A full global reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set for June 9 with a dedicated Direct presentation immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase. The game will allegedly launch in October.
