Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is getting a multiplayer beta in mid-September and one of its maps, Marina Bay Grand Prix, has been showcased. A full-fledged multiplayer reveal is coming on September 15th but in the meantime, Infinity Ward has revealed another new map. Inspired by Modern Warfare’s Shoot House, Farm 18 takes place in and around an industrial cement factory.

The idea is to have the main facility in the center for all of the action but afford opportunities for players to pull back. As multiplayer design director Geoff Smith notes, “If you want to play that crazy game, you can go to the center and that action will find you. If you want to pull back and play a different way, it’s still available to you.”

Senior environment artist Ashley Thundercliffe also discusses realism in the map, especially with the foliage. “If we go too dense with the foliage, we have people hide in the corners. If we don’t go dense enough, we don’t sell the narrative of the overgrowth.” The comparison between the base map and final design with the environmental textures underscores how much goes into the presentation. But hopefully, there’s the right amount of foliage.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Details on Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Project Aurora aka Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile are also coming on September 15th. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
