Before its official reveal on August 17th, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is seeing its fair share of rumors and leaks (which is par for the course, given the last few months). Insider Gaming and PlayStation Size reported that the sequel is being delivered to Modern Warfare 2 (2022) via add-ons. It now seems that the multiplayer maps are all remastered from Modern Warfare 2 (2009).
Yes, the original Modern Warfare 2. On Twitter, @el_bobberto claimed that every multiplayer map available at launch in the upcoming sequel is remastered from the 2009 title. They then shared an image of what appears to be map voting, a feature absent in the more recent entries.
Farfetched as it may sound, another leaker, @TheGhostOfHope, also reported that Modern Warfare 2 (2009) would see “almost all” of its maps brought over. There would also be some maps from older titles developed by Treyarch, Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward, but nothing was confirmed. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson said the focus would be on remastered maps, but couldn’t confirm the exact maps.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10th and is confirmed for Xbox One, PS4 and PC thus far. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
