Call of Duty Warzone - Black Ops Royale

Activision has announced that it is ending support for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Call of Duty: Warzone. Starting on June 4th, the free-to-play battle royale will no longer be listed on the two previous-generation consoles. While players who already have the title can continue to play it for the time being, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 kicking off its first season will also mark the end of PS4 and Xbox One Warzone‘s servers going down.

As part of the gradual process of Warzone‘s shutdown on PS4 and Xbox One, the content for the title that can be purchased, like Call of Duty League Operator Packs, COD Points, and BlackCell, will also be removed from all PS4 and Xbox One menus, as well as the in-game stores. The battle pass, however, will remain available through the in-game store, giving players the option to at least get their hands on the rewards from its free tiers.

June 25th onwards, the in-game store on PS4 and Xbox One will also be completely removed. However, its servers will remain available until the end of Season 6 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Activision has noted that, as long as players continue to use the same PlayStation or XBOX account that was linked with their Activision account, they can continue to play Call of Duty: Warzone with all of their progression intact on the current-generation consoles and PC. Full progression and content purchased with COD points will carry over. COD Points themselves, however, will only be available on a console in the same family. This means that only players moving from PS4 to PS5 will keep their COD Points.

The company has also confirmed that it doesn’t yet have plans to shut down the servers of its older Call of Duty games. As such, titles like 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will continue to remain playable online.

This announcement comes shortly after Activision and Infinity Ward officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The title is slated for release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23rd, and will tell a brand new story that revolves around North Korea invading South Korea, and in the process, turning the entire peninsula into a warzone.

The title will also mark the return of Call of Duty: DMZ – a PvPvE extraction game mode where players can jump into a map to complete a few objectives and get their hands on some loot before they need to extract successfully. More details about the new DMZ mode are slated to be coming on June 7th.

Activision has also confirmed that the campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be purely single-player, with no plans for a co-op mode in the vein of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Fans of the multiplayer modes will also be happy to learn that it will launch with 12 new core maps, with Infinity Ward promising the “most authentic” gunplay that it has been able to achieve so far.
