So you want to get hyped for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward’s latest addition to the franchise, which recently got a reveal trailer and extensive new details. However, you only care about the campaign and happened to be one of the poor few burned by the awfulness of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
While there’s no guarantee that Modern Warfare 4 won’t have any bad writing or inane set pieces, you can rest assured of one thing: No co-op. An Activision representative confirmed this to Digital Foundry, stating that the campaign is single-player only through and through. And right away, it’s already looking far more appealing.
Besides the poor quality of the mission design and storytelling, the co-op campaign in Black Ops 7 had several issues, such as a lack of checkpoints. If you were disconnected while playing with friends, then the entire mission would have to be replayed. Of course, the inability to pause, even when playing solo, didn’t help either.
Whether Infinity Ward replicates that last mistake remains to be seen when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. DMZ, the new extraction shooter mode, will receive a full reveal on June 7th, but you can learn about multiplayer – and its new mode, Kill Block – in the meantime.
