In its recent earnings report, Capcom has revealed that PC is now the top platform for its game sales. As caught by TweakTown, Capcom has reported that it had sold 28.211 million copies of games on PC, amounting to around 60 percent of all of its digital game sales. For the sake of comparison, the company sold 18.517 million copies of games on consoles – around 40 percent.
In entirety, Capcom has sold more than 51 million copies of games throughout the year, which was a rise over the previous year’s reported 46.729 million copies sold. At the time, PC had started pulling ahead of console in terms of game sales, with 18.517 million sold on console and 28.211 sold on PC.
“In the consumer sub segment, our main grow growth driver, we will bolster global expansion of catalog sales based on digital data analysis,” said Capcom’s management about its recent sales figures. “At the same time, we will consistently launch new titles and strengthen sales during their initial release period.”
“We have widened our sales regions in recent years thanks to greater adoption of digital sales on PC, which has enabled us to sell our games even in countries and regions where dedicated game consoles are not available.”
“Looking ahead, we’ll raise the level of sales volume in lower performing countries and regions, specifically in emerging countries by strengthening our brands globally through further enhancing the accuracy of our data analysis and marketing for each country and region.”
During its earnings report, Capcom had also reported its 12th consecutive year of growth thanks to its rising game sales. The company credited the release and strong commercial and critical performance of Monster Hunter Wilds for this. The company had also confirmed that the Monster Hunter franchise had cumulatively sold 120 million copies, while its strongest performer was still Resident Evil, having sold 170 million copies.
Other major franchises for Capcom are also not far behind, with Street Fighter boasting 56 million copies, Mega Man with 43 million copies and Devil May Cry with 33 million copies sold. Smaller franchises have also done quite well for the company; Okami has sold 4.6 million units, Onimusha has sold 8.7 million units, and the Ace Attorney series has sold 13 million units throughout its lifetime.
The company has also confirmed that it will be continuing to grow out its development teams by hiring 100 new employees every year. To accomplish this, Capcom has also announced plans to construct a new office building next to its headquarters in Osaka, Japan. Moving forward, Capcom will also continue to use its RE Engine for game development, with resources also being allocated to upgrade the engine to support newer technologies.
