Capcom looking to attract Call of Duty fans with Resident Evil 6; ‘Action route makes sense’

Capcom finally made the large, much anticipated and long rumoured announcement yesterday- they announced Resident Evil 6 with an amazing trailer (watch below). We really liked what we saw, but many people have shown dissatisfaction and disappointment regarding how action-oriented the game looks, rather than being an old-school survival horror game in vein of the older Resi games.

Capcom, however, says the action route makes a lot of sense for the franchise- Resident Evil 5 was the best selling game in the series, and they’re definitely looking to take the series forward in that direction, while also looking to attract the CoD crowd.

When asked in an interview with gaming magazine MCV about why the series, especially the upcoming Operation Raccoon City, has taken a more action oriented approach, Capcom UK’s head of marketing, Dave Turner said, “We’ve seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented – Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully.”

“The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil.”

Well, the trailer does seem to be rather “action-y”, but it also has a lot of horror moments that are reminiscent of the old Resident Evil games. You can see our analysis of the trailer here, you might find some details about the game that you didn’t know of.

How did you like the trailer? Do you the like the direction the series is going in? Tell us in your comments below.

Resident Evil 6 comes out on November 20 this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
