In its recent Q&A session after reporting its recent financials, Capcom CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto predicted more than 100 million new generation consoles would be in the market by the year 2020.
“Our perception of the home video game market is that it will continue to be active at the global level, as we believe the install base of major home video game consoles will break the 100 million unit mark in 2020.”
While these “new generation” consoles should refer to the PS4 and Xbox One, we’re wondering if that also includes the upcoming Nintendo NX, which releases in March 2017. Does the Wii U fit into the equation as well, especially with Nintendo seemingly supporting the console (for now anyway)? How will the rumoured upgraded consoles fit in?
Regardless, business is going fairly well for Capcom – it recently reported 800,000 digital sales for Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster and has a “full scale offensive” of Resident Evil content planned for the second half of FY 2017.
