Code Vein

Code Vein is almost here, and it’s bringing a new spin to the action RPG genre. While it’s heavily influenced by Dark Souls, as many in the genre are now, it has a unique anime styling as opposed to grittiness that’s become commonplace in this branch of RPGs. In a new behind the scenes video, the developers break down how they came to design to look of the characters to stand out.

The design of the characters gives off a strong anime/manga vibe, which has helped make it stand out. That was entirely by design. In the video, the director says that at one point, the game had a more photorealisitic look to both the backgrounds and the characters, but ultimately they changed course to help the game stick out a little more. They also detail how they came to design the new looks of the characters and the influences. You can see the full thing below.

Code Vein will launch September 27th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out over 40 minutes of new gameplay footage in the meantime through here.
