Company of Heroes 3

Releasing next year, Relic Entertainment’s Company of Heroes 3 offers a much larger scale to the tactical combat that the series is known for. In a new gameplay overview trailer via IGN, development team members talked about various features and how they change up the formula. Check it out below.

First up is the choice of the Mediterranean as a setting. Executive producer David Littman said that variety of environments was one of the requested features from a past survey. This made the sands and deserts of North Africa along with the mountains and beaches of Italy perfect as a setting. Art director Tristan Brett also talked about the artistic theme, “Life at war,” which is to depict life in the Mediterranean along with its culture and contrasting that with the destruction of war.

Gameplay-wise, players can recruit different Battle Groups from around the world and add them to their armies to provide an international flavor. There will be more fighting forces than ever before along with an improved destruction system for more perilous but tactical urban combat. If a building collapses onto nearby squads, it can kill them. They can also take cover in the rubble and ruins of buildings. Each environment will also affect the gameplay in different ways so the open desert of North Africa will play differently from Italy’s mountains, valleys and choke-points.

Company of Heroes 3 is currently slated to release in late 2022 for PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
