There had been rumors of Apple bidding on PrimeSense, the firm responsible for the tech behind Microsoft’s Kinect sensor. Apple has now officially confirmed their purchase of PrimeSense, causing a renewed wave of rumors circling and Apple console, and Apple Smart Televisions. The deal was rumored to have gone down for $360 million. Rumors of an Apple Smart TV are especially persistent due to Apple CEO Tim Cook announcing last December that Apple would begin upping it’s focus in the television department.

Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet gave a statement on the matter:

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Despite the rumors, this new acquisition does not guarantee that Apple is moving towards Smart TV. It is entirely possible that Apple will make a move towards incorporating motion sensor technology into their mobile platforms, thereby revolutionizing the mobile industry.
