Control Resonant

After sparking excitement at The Game Awards, Remedy Entertainment isn’t yet ready to fully unveil everything about Control Resonant. But after calling it an “open-ended” action RPG, creative director Mikael Kasurinen reaffirmed this to Game Informer while adding that it offers “fast-paced traversal, warped environments, [and] mindbending powers and weapons.”

Amid the fast-paced combat and surreal environments, with Manhattan serving as a terrifying new setting after the Hiss breakout from the Oldest House, Kasurinen thinks that the team’s approach to traversal will stand out the most.

“I think our way of handling traversal is going to be something that will stand out [and] I also believe we have a unique take on how we blend melee with forward-facing momentum and supernatural abilities.”

He also confirmed that Control Resonant isn’t just set after the first game’s events but a whopping seven years later. After awakening from his coma, Dylan channels a new weapon, the Apparent (not “Aberrant”), to take on the hostile forces inhabiting the city. How he’ll bring things under control remains to be seen, but he’s also working to find Jesse, who’s mysteriously disappeared.

Where his journey will lead him remains to be seen, but he’ll have some “impossible” choices to make regarding humanity’s future. Perhaps having to choose his sister over the fate of the world? Time will tell.

Control Resonant is slated to launch this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (and no, not in the second quarter). Remedy is aiming for its “biggest and most ambitious game” to date – a tall order, considering it also wants to avoid making something “safe.”
