Microsoft’s decision to release all their first party games day and date on Xbox Game Pass is one that continues to pay off. As per data accrued by True Achievements, who track player activity in a sample size of over half a million Xbox One players each week, Crackdown 3 was the most played premium title on the console during the week ending February 17.
In the charts for player activity, it was trailing behind free to play battle royale duo Apex Legends and Fortnite, but charted ahead of the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield 5, FIFA 19, and many others. What’s interesting is that it was Crackdown 3’s single player campaign that was third in the charts, while its multiplayer component, Wrecking Zone, had a much more disappointing performance, coming in at No. 22. Clearly people don’t much care about the power of the cloud.
In the UK sales charts last week, Crackdown 3 was nowhere to be found in the top 10, but it’s clear that its presence on Game Pass must have been hugely responsible for its less than stellar performance in terms of traditional sales (though of course, lukewarm reviews must also have had an affect).
