Crimson Desert, the open-world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss, is off to a strong start after launching yesterday. It already sold through two million copies worldwide – an impressive feat despite the company’s share prices dropping by nearly 30 percent after review scores went live.

Of course, with a project of this magnitude, this is only really the beginning. After thanking players, Pearl Abyss said it would “listen closely to the wide range of feedback shared by the community and work to make improvements quickly, doing our utmost to make the journey ahead even more enjoyable for our players.” Some of those have already come through in the latest patch, which offers stability improvements and fixes a rather annoying quick-time event sequence.

There’s much more to be done, though. On Steam, Crimson Desert has a “Mixed” rating with 68 percent its currently 6,166 user reviews recommending it. Many of the complaints revolve around the control scheme, UI and lack of remapping. Inventory management is also a sore subject, especially since there’s no way to store items at one’s camp.

Pearl Abyss already confirmed that it’s working to implement storage options in the player’s housing, but there’s no ETA on its release. It hasn’t really commented on everything else, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it offered updates relatively soon. After all, the studio has supported its first title, the MMORPG Black Desert, for many years and is used to addressing post-launch feedback.

Crimson Desert is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review for more details, including where it shines and falls short.
