However, it's up to the player to decide "what you think is good or bad with the ending(s)," per game director Jacek Zięba.

After Bloober Team offered more extensive gameplay for its sci-fi survival horror Cronos: The New Dawn, various new previews have gone live, revealing even more details. Similar to Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 2, players can expect multiple endings. The twist is that it’s up to the player to decide which is the “good” or “bad” ending.

Speaking to MP1st, game director Jacek Zięba said, “It’s your decision what you think is good or bad with the ending(s) of the game. Even inside the studio, someone will say, ‘Oh, but this one is bad,’ And somebody else will say, ‘No, that’s good.’”

Lead writer and narrative designer Grzegorz Like said that the studio wanted to approach the endings “with care” and make them more of a “discussion.” “So there are arguments behind choosing this and choosing that. With the genre of psychological horror, you don’t want to go with, okay, the ‘bad’ ending or the ‘good’ ending. All things need to be a bit more, say, sophisticated, nuanced, and thought-provoking here.”

It would certainly make sense given the premise of Cronos: The New Dawn. As a Traveler for the Collective, players traverse 1980s Poland and the present-day world, a post-apocalyptic ruin due to something called The Change. The latter is quite perilous due to the presence of the Orphans, mutant creatures which become stronger after merging with each other’s remains. Suffice it to say that it’s a story laden with mystery, intrigue and less-than-simple circumstances.

Cronos: The New Dawn launches this Fall for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will also be playable at the Xbox booth during Gamescom from August 20th to 24th.
