Cyberpunk 2077 Hits its Highest Steam Concurrent User Count Since Launch

Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying another resurgence, as many had expected it would around this time. Last week, CD Projekt RED released Update 2.0 for the action RPG, significantly improving the base experience in many ways, and just recently, we also saw the launch of its stellar expansion, Phantom Liberty. In the aftermath of both, the game is enjoying a significant uptick in engagement, as evidenced by its Steam numbers.

As per data visible on SteamDB, yesterday, the day of Phantom Liberty’s launch, Cyberpunk 2077 hit a peak concurrent Steam user count of 246,754 players. That’s the highest it’s been since the game exceeded a million concurrent players on Steam upon its release in December 2020.

Recently, it was also reported that the game had enjoyed an increase in physical sales in the UK.

This is the second time Cyberpunk 2077 is seeing a post-launch resurgence where player numbers are concerned. Roughly around the same time last year, the game even managed to cross The Witcher 3’s all-time concurrent user count high on Steam, driven by the popularity of the Netflix anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Around that time, the game was seeing over a million daily players across all platforms.

In our review of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Phantom Liberty is what Cyberpunk 2077 should have been three years ago. It’s an incredible expansion that boasts a gripping story, compelling characters, engaging moment-to-moment gameplay, and significantly improved progression mechanics. It’s so good that it uplifts all of Cyberpunk 2077, finally making good on the lofty promises CD Projekt RED made for the base game all those years ago.” Read the full review through here.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the comprehensive Update 2.0’s release, we’ve also re-reviewed the base game, where we said, “After nearly three years of updates and improvements, Cyberpunk 2077 is – at long last – a legitimately good game, one that builds on its flawed past with more than a few radical changes and overhauls.” Read the full review through here.
