Cyberpunk 2077

PlayStation has been releasing a series of videos on CD Projekt RED, showcasing the developer’s work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. The latest video goes “behind the scenes” with Cyberpunk 2077, the highly anticipated open world FPS/RPG. Check it out below (with Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia providing narration).

The journey from the 2013 announcement teaser to the behind-closed-doors gameplay reveal at E3 2018 (which released later worldwide) is detailed. CD Projekt RED co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwiński reveals the stress he was under leading up to E3 2018. Other members of the development team also talk about the challenges of making an open world city that’s both large on foot and when traveling by car.

While it’s based on the Cyberpunk source material, Cyberpunk 2077 actually takes place 50 years later in a parallel timeline. A release date hasn’t been confirmed (aside from the tease of “When it’s ready”). However, it will be at E3 2019, and Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher 3 and its expansions, is now the design director.
