Cyberpunk 2077 Will Let You Swim, But You Can’t Drive Flying Cars

It's cyberpunk, but it's not that cyberpunk.

What is the first thing anyone does when they see a body of water in a game- especially an open world game? Why, they jump in, of course, to see if they will sink or swim. For those looking forward to jumping into the waters of Night City when Cyberpunk 2077 releases, there’s good news- it’ll let you do that.

Speaking with VG247, lead quest designer Pawel Sasko confirmed that not only will there be boats in the game for players to take control of, there will also be sections in the story centred around swimming, though he wouldn’t go into specifics about what those sections will be, so as to avoid spoilers.

“There are boats in the game, definitely, and there are even some story elements focused around the boats – don’t want to spoil the story too much,” said Sasko. “But definitely boats are a part of the game but you cannot drive the boat. You can swim, but I would like not to disclose anything! We had some quests in The Witcher that were focused around water and doing stuff around the water, and we have something here as well.”

Sasko had a bit more information to share as far as vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077 are concerned. Though we know that, true to its cyberpunk setting, the game will have flying vehicles, players won’t be able to pilot these. There were be certain story-specific sections and scenarios where you’ll be in flying cars, but the game won’t let you drive any of these.

“There are flying vehicles that are like the story elements, and so there will be moments when V is in the flying vehicle, but they’re always story-focused,” said Sasko. “I would have to spoil you a bit of the story, I don’t want to, but there are moments when you are in the flying vehicle but you cannot drive it yourself over the city. For that you have all kinds of cars, all kinds of motorcycles. It feels pretty good, actually, to be honest.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. CD Projekt RED recently confirmed that they’ll be releasing the 50 minute-long E3 2019 gameplay demonstration to the public at PAX West in August.
