Dead Island 2 is the third installment in a decade-spanning franchise of semi-open world survival horror games. With six Slayer characters to choose from and level up to the max of 30 in the base game, Dead Island 2 also has a number of methods to farm experience points.

Questing

Both the main campaign and side missions offer up experience points as completion rewards. As single sources of large amounts of XP, missions are your best option for leveling up quickly and efficiently.

Unlocking Doors

Every single locked door carries a potential XP reward for unlocking it. This activity requires Fuses, which are stocked by traders and purchasable for $1,500 a pop. Carlos is your best bet, early on in the game, and can be found at Emma’s mansion. After successfully defending the mansion from being overrun by zombies, and getting through the weapon-crafting tutorial from Sam, you will be permitted to interact with Carlos. His stock of Fuses can be exhausted, and can then be replenished by leaving the district and returning.

Zombie Slaying

This might be an obvious no-brainer, but considering that there is a pool of unlimited targets to exterminate for 15-20 XP each, it bears mentioning–just kill zombies. Up your game, and your XP gains to 35 each, by successfully performing a dodge-counter combo. For maximum efficiency, ensure that you’re using the right weapon for the right type of zombie.

Completing Challenges

If mundane zombie stomping gets boring, you can spice things up a little by taking on one of the 84 multi-level Challenges that charges you with performing specific tasks with specific conditions attached, in exchange for experience points, as well as trophy/achievement completion. Each level of the Challenge carries with it an increased XP bonus as a reward, but once completed, cannot be tapped again for any more experience points.

Dead Island 2 offers up a great deal of replayability with multiple characters to choose from and an intricate skill tree to unlock and customize. The setting of Los Angeles City offers up a vast playground to hone your zombie extermination prowess, so get busy killing!
