What exactly is going on with Dead Island 2? The game was originally announced at E3 last year, under development at the studio Yager, before it mysteriously went dark, missing its release dates. Later on, it would come to light that Yager were no longer developing the game, that the game was in development hell, with its current release window unknown.
It looks like ‘unknown’ may mean ‘never,’ at least if the implications of this latest development in the saga are to be believed. It appears that Dead Island 2‘s store listing on Steam has been removed entirely– indicating that the game is not due to release any time soon, possibly ever. This would mean that Deep Silver may have pulled the plug on the project- since if they had intended to release it, or even give it a re-reveal at E3 this year, maybe, then they would not have pulled the store listing.
This would be rather sad for fans of the IP, who have been subjected to repeated poor products over the last few years; then again, Techland, who are the guys who made the original game, went on to make Dying Light with Warner Bros., and that game turned out great, so it’s not like they don’t have options.
