Deep Silver has released a video showing gameplay footage from the upcoming Dead Island: Riptide. This is the first look we’ve had at the gameplay of the game itself, and it focuses on us defending our base, which is a new feature in the game.

The video shows the player defending the base by using mines and fences and machine gun turrets after scavenging for supplies as waves of zombies attack it. The gameplay itself seems to be very similar to what we’ve seen already in the first Dead Island game, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. As it is, Techland confirmed that Dead Island: Riptide would be more like a standalone expansion than a sequel.

Have a look at the video above, it might pique your interest.

Dead Island: Riptide releases later this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Stay tuned for more info.
