Glenn Schofield, known for his work in helping create the Dead Space franchise, still has hopes that the sci-fi horror series might make a comeback. In an interview with IGN, he spoke about having spoken to EA about a fourth game in the Dead Space franchise, and while he noted that the company wasn’t interested at the time, there is still hope thanks to the fact that EA is becoming a privately-owned company.
“I went to [EA] recently and they’re like no, we’re not interested anymore,” said Schofield. “I said, I can get back the leadership team. I need the models from EA Motive [who built the Dead Space remake in 2023] and I can save you 30 to 40 million dollars on the idea that I have. And, they’re like, ‘no.'”
Schofield spoke about how, among the number of ideas he has for different game projects, Dead Space 4 was one of them. That, along with the fact that EA has a different ownership structure to answer to, gives him hope that Dead Space might come back some day.
“I have quite a few ideas that I’m ready to go with and one of them is Dead Space 4,” he said. “The fact that EA just got bought, I think there’s an opportunity. I’m already making calls.”
As for whether or not EA would be more willing to accept a pitch for a brand new entry in the horror franchise, Schofield noted that it’s something that we’ll have to wait and see. This is especially important since Schofield believes that the remake of Dead Space from 2023 might not have ended up being as profitable as EA would have wanted.
“We’ll see,” said Schofield. “I don’t know where EA’s head is right now, I don’t think they made money on [the Dead Space remake]. Dead Space needs to be adapted to different mediums — movies, TV series, it would be great. But I am more optimistic [since the sale of EA], because somebody new could buy [the Dead Space IP].”
Schofield has spoken about wanting to work on different kinds of properties in the past. Back in September, for instance, he had noted that he would be open to work on a game based on the Alien franchise. However, he also insisted on having full creative control over the hypothetical project. “I have to own the creative,” he said. “That’s not even negotiable. Because I won’t make a great game unless it’s mine and I’m so ingrained in it—then I will give you 130%.”
As for EA, the company recently announced that it was being acquired by a consortium of investors that include PIF (the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The deal is valued at around $55 billion, and is for a complete buyout of the company. In exchange, EA’s current shareholders are being paid $210 per share in cash. The deal has already been approved of by EA’s board of directors, and is expected to be completed in Q1 FY2027.
