Death Stranding Is So Secret Because of Social Media

Twitter is to blame for why Death Stranding remains so mysterious, I guess.

Even though we saw our first gameplay trailer of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding at E3 2018, just what exactly the game even is continues to elude us. According to a new interview with Variety with the man himself, due to the prevalence of social media today, that’s very much by design.

Hideo Kojima revealed within that interview that the over the top secrecy with the game comes as a reaction to the social networks era that we’re living in, where any piece of information is readily available. According to Kojima, the process of getting to the answer is the important thing, not the answer itself. “In this time, people just want immediate answers, but not only answers, they also want to know what they feel. This is good, this is bad. This is a game I should like. This is a game I shouldn’t like. They want answers for what they should think.”

As his first project away from Konami and the Metal Gear IP he was chained to for so long, it’s very exciting to many of his fans to get to discover what Hideo Kojima will do with Death Stranding. Though he’s working with many famous actors and actresses, he’s not using their names to legitimize anything. Death Stranding will launch for PS4 sometime in the future.
